30 Day Challenge (Part 4)
Jesus issues one challenge to His followers that is radical in every conceivable way. Not only for His generation but it is equally radical for us today especially us in the Western World. And this challenge challenges even the best of Christians…
Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (NIV)
This is an incredibly powerful statement and challenge. I truly believe that when we get a hold of what this teaching really means or the statement really gets a hold of us – a miraculous transformation will occur because it truly changes everything in one’s life.
Jesus says to not store up for ourselves treasures on earth. Why? Because treasures are bad? No. Because treasures don’t last. You can’t take it with you.
Either our earthly treasures will leave us or we will leave them. They are temporary at best!
How do we store up treasures in heaven? We make a conscious decision to start living with an eternal perspective. Meaning that our daily choices and decisions should be made thinking about how they will or will not impact eternity. We need to think beyond making choices and decisions just based on our life on earth.
Challenge for Week 4…
Think about your daily choices and decisions. Make one decision this week that is based on an eternal perspective. Ex. Take someone to coffee for the purposes of connecting with them and over time impact them spiritually.
